This page pulls together, for a single country, the same underlying data used across the rest of the site: the country/year release dataset and the review dataset.
Releases are counted at the band-genre level. A band tagged with two genres (e.g. "black/death") contributes to both, so the per-genre shares add up to more than 100% and the total counts genre tags, not unique releases. Figures run from 1964 to 2025.
World rank and rank in region are by total genre-tagged releases across all years, among countries that have any data. Region share is this country's releases as a percentage of its region's total.
Per million people divides total releases by the country's latest available population (World Bank data), so it favours small, active scenes — Nordic countries in particular.
Reviews are a separate dataset of 135,551 Metal Archives reviews (2002 onwards). Not every country has reviews; where present, the average rating is weighted by review count. Review counts are keyed by country name and matched to the release data by country.
Is the data exact? No — treat it as a broad, honest picture of a scene rather than a precise census.
